BA Bands eNews November 9, 2020
Ken Grass, long time former Broken Arrow Band Director passes away Professor Kenneth Grass lost his long battle with cancer and transitioned into eternity during the early morning hours of November 6, 2020. A lifelong educator, Ken worked as the Director of Marching Bands for Broken Arrow High School where he influenced a generation of musicians. Later, as a professor of music and Director of Bands at the University of Tulsa, Ken continued to shape a generation of band directors, conductors, and performance musicians. Mr. Grass’s personality was larger than life, but he possessed a gift that could make any person he met feel loved, encouraged, and special. Excerpts from Mr. Davis’ Statement about Professor Ken Grass: We all have someone in our lives that saw the best in us, even when we didn't see it ourselves. That person who has inspired us to pursue a particular career, to encourage us to chase our dreams, motivated us to achieve greatness, and served as a mentor to us and so many others. That mentor for me is my GREAT friend, Professor Ken Grass. Prof was my high school band director and THE person that inspired me to pursue a career in music education. I owe him SO So much! Mr. Grass passed from this world earlier today and left his pain and battle with cancer behind. But the legacy of Ken Grass lives on with the countless numbers of lives he touched as Director of Bands Emeritus from Broken Arrow HS and the University of Tulsa (among others). I'm flooded with so many emotions, but I'm also reminded of how big Mr. Grass' heart was to care for so many... his family, students, colleagues and community. We lost an ICON today! He is loved by so many and his legacy will live on forever. Life will never be the same without you in this world. Rest well Maestro! Ken Grass Memorial Service & Scholarship Fund A Public Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, November 14 at 2:00pm at the Broken Arrow HS Memorial Stadium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Ken Grass Memorial Scholarship Fund by donating online by CLICKING HERE or mailing contributions to:
