Student of the Week

Mason Rhue is currently a junior and a member of the HS Wind Ensemble, third-year member of the Pride of Broken Arrow, and a member of the Broken Arrow Indoor Percussion.  This past winter, he was selected to perform with the All-State Orchestra

Mason was recently named a Semi-finalist in the Great Plains Marimba Competition, advancing to a round of 16 with high school students all across the globe (including South Korea and Taiwan).  Mason will travel to Oklahoma City University to perform for a judging panel of elite collegiate percussion educators in the Semi-Final Round June 18th and 19th;  the competition concludes with the final live round on June 20th.

This is a tremendous achievement and honor to be named among these fine musicians;  congratulations to Mason and good luck as he prepares for the Semi-Final and Final Rounds!

BOA Patch Segments distributed at the Pride Banquet
There has been a discrepancy in the number and amount of patch segments received from Bands of America. We are working with the BOA to arrange a fix for this. Receiving the appropriate BOA patch segments is an important part of the overall experience. We will make sure the students get the opportunity to receive any missing patch segments.  BOA HAS SHIPPED the missing patch segments.  Once they arrive, students and/or parents may pick them up in the band office.

Next Band Parent Meeting April 14
Our next band parent meeting will be on Tuesday, April 14 in the High School Band Hall at 7:00pm.

Music For All Summer Symposium
The Music for All Summer Symposium offers a week-long, immersive camp experience for high school band and orchestra students in all areas of instrumental and color guard performance, and leadership. This camp is the last full week of June, the 22-27. Students will get to experience clinics and performances from world renowned educators and performers, as well as a very competitive drum corps show on Friday night. There are seven student divisions – concert band, jazz band, marching band, orchestra, percussion, color guard, and the BOA Drum Major Institute. Leadership is the central theme based around every division. 98% of all student evaluations received said that their overall impression of the Summer Symposium met their expectations and 91% said the Symposium exceeded their expectations. 100% would recommend it to their friends.
