-Directors Notes-

A note from Mr. Davis
Pride family: I’m sure each of you are as excited as the kids and I are with the amazing performances of the Pride’s 2019 show YEE HAW! With several upcoming trips and travels out of state, there are many questions about trip details, and many questions of a general nature. Many of these questions appear in various social media posts. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR QUESTIONS OF THAT NATURE. When so many questions are posted on the social media outlets, many inaccurate facts and speculation appear (all with good intent), but create confusion and actually perpetuate more and more questions on social media. In fact, the purpose of the “Broken Arrow Band Members and Family” page on Facebook is for the organization and Booster Club to share information. It is not intended to be a place to ask numerous questions. Please help us cleaning up this Facebook page without posting, commenting on various questions and ending the spread of disinformation. Thank you!

Advice and suggestions:
1) Refer to eNews - most questions posted can easily be answered by doing a little checking on you own.
2) Ask your child -  A large part of the philosophy of the Pride of Broken Arrow is teaching our students time management skills, discipline, and responsibility. To that end, the Pride Directors will share valuable information directly with the students. Most all questions I see posted on social media have been previously addressed and shared directly with the Pride members. Since our Band Booster Club meets only once monthly, it’s a valuable skill for the students to be able to share that info with their parents directly. The students get to become the “teachers" to their parents. Students must “pay attention” and increase their responsibility to share information to their parents.
3) Attend Booster Club meetings - this is one of the BEST ways to be “in the know”. Attend meetings, volunteer and get “in the know”.
4) Ask the proper source directly - contact the Officers of the Broken Arrow Band Booster Club - these emails are readily available on the band website under the “parent association” header. These are the authorities that can answer questions with accurate and precise information.
5) Trust the Process - Our Pride Directors, Booster Officers and Student Leaders work hard for the good of something much larger that the needs of the individual. In almost every case, there is a “reason” for the “reason” in the way we operate. I will assure you the great care is dedicated to the advancement, needs and care of the members.

ORLANDO TRIP PARENT MEETING AT Next Band Parent Meeting - MONDAY, October 7
The next meeting of the Broken Arrow Band Parents Association will be at 7:00pm on October 7 in the BAHS Band Hall. Much of this meeting will be devoted to the travel details for the Orlando and St Louis BOA trips. Trip itineraries will be made available at that time online. (Quick Itinerary posted below in a later headline / topic)

Broken Arrow Invitational - THANK YOU!
The volunteer efforts of our parents and students are truly what made this event so successful, despite all of the weather delays. The overwhelming feedback that we have received from the competing band directors has shown their excitement for how professional the event is run and how kind and friendly our parent and student volunteers are to our visitors. That is FANTASTIC! This year’s BAI tested us as an organization to be quick on our feet, serve our guests and keeping everyone safe with the severe weather in the area. We are thankful for everyone’s efforts to continually make adjustments throughout the day with all of the weather issues. Thank you to all that were involved in producing this first class event.

All medications in their ORIGINAL prescription container, and only in the exact amounts needed for the trip. NO MEDICATIONS will be accepted in unmarked or unsealed containers, per school policy.

Pride Account Payments
It is important that all Student accounts are current to remain in good standing. At this point all members should have either paid or fundraised at total of $2400 toward their accounts. The Color Guard additional fee is $200. Please check the status of your student account and make sure you are up to date with your account payments.

Next Band Parent Meeting - MONDAY, October 7
The next meeting of the Broken Arrow Band Parents Association will be at 7:00pm on October 7 in the BAHS Band Hall.

OBA Finals Reserved Tickets
Ticket Requests may be placed in the HS Band Office with Mrs. Good for OBA Finals Tickets. The BA Band will be able to secure a limited number of tickets in the "BA Section”. Tickets are $20 each and will assigned on a first come, first served basis. Tickets may also be purchased at the stadium on contest day, but can't be guaranteed to be placed in the "BA Section." Place ticket orders with Mrs. Good at the HS Band Office. Tickets will be delivered once we receive them from OBA (typically the week prior to the contest). Tickets will be delivered once we receive them from OBA (typically the week prior to the contest). The 6A OBA Championship is at Owasso HS on Saturday, November 2.

Section Gifts
As we approach our two big trips of the Pride season, many sections and their parents are already planning for special gifts for the members to help celebrate. We know that the Pride activity requires a significant commitment from members and their families. To help ensure that section gifts do not add to the financial burden, we ask that limit the cost of any section gifts for the entire season to $25 or less. (That limit can be over and above the cost of section shirts, if necessary). Concerning section shirts, we would like to remind all section leaders and their parents that all section shirts should be short-sleeved T's ONLY and all artwork must be approved by the directors in advance of any orders being placed.

Pride of Broken Arrow "Letter Policy"
To be eligible for a letter with the Pride of Broken Arrow, a student must complete the following criteria:
  • 1) Be selected by directors to participate in the Pride; and
  • 2) Compete in a contest with the Pride, either by participating on field or by traveling with the band as a shadow, crew member or alternate (a shadow being defined as a student who may travel to a competition as a substitute but may not take part in an on-field performance at each event).
In addition, Pride directors may, at their discretion, choose to award a letter to a student who is named to the Pride but is unable to participate in competitions because of various circumstances. Students who meet these criteria will be provided a letter certificate after the first competition in which they participate or after the directors award them a letter. Letter certificates will be presented to qualifying members in the weeks following their first contest (typically within 2 weeks). Until such time, a Pride jacket may be worn without a letter.

SPECIAL EVENTS

BAI is in the books now and it was a success. I want to thank all of the volunteers who signed up and selflessly gave of their time to support our kids. It was truly a great group of people who came out, with wonderful attitudes, smiles, and a willingness to help. It was noticed and I recieved comment after comment about the effort and helpfulness of all that were there.

It is because of you that we are able to provide an excellent experience for our guests. I also love seeing the interaction you get with your kids and the smiles they have when they see you there working behind the scenes for them and this program that they devote so much of their dedication and hard work for the benefit of them and the program.

We are very low on several 2019 BAI shirt sizes. You'll want to grab them on Monday before they're gone! Don't forget your 2019 patch and the BAI pin. We have 2018 BAI shirts for $5 but we only have a handful left.

Get your show shirts! Monday we will have preordered show shirts and buttons ready to be picked up. Come at 6pm before the parent meeting or stay after until 9pm to get them. If you can't make it, send your student, spouse, partner, parent, relative or friend to get them for you! As soon as dog and luggage tags are available, I'll arrange a way for them to be picked up. I'm hoping by next week before St Louis but it depends on the vendor's new machinery arriving quickly.
